Cruise Jumping: How I Sailed the Disney Destiny and Disney Wish on the Same Day

Planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation often means choosing between incredible ships and itineraries. But on my most recent trip, I experienced something a little different.
As a Pearl Castaway Club member and travel advisor who has sailed on more than 40 Disney Cruise Line sailings, I set out on a unique adventure, sailing on two Disney ships in the same day, starting aboard the Disney Destiny and ending the day aboard the Disney Wish.
This travel experience, which my friends and I jokingly call “cruise jumping,” turned into one of the most exciting Disney Cruise Line adventures I’ve had yet.
There are Disney cruise fans… and then there are people like me.
On my most recent travel adventure, I did something my friends and I jokingly started calling “cruise jumping.”
It meant sailing on one Disney ship, disembarking in the morning… and boarding a completely different Disney ship later that very same day.
Yes, it’s possible. And it turned into one of the most exciting travel days I’ve ever had.
Here’s how the whole adventure unfolded.

Step One: Sailing the Disney Destiny
My adventure began aboard the beautiful Disney Destiny.
This sailing was especially meaningful because I was hosting a group cruise for clients with fellow travel advisors from Fairytale Journeys Travel.
Group cruises are always a highlight for me because they combine everything I love about Disney Cruise Line. amazing ships, incredible destinations, and the chance to share the experience with people who love cruising as much as I do.
After several magical days sailing the Bahamas and experiencing both of Disney Cruise Line’s private island destinations, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, we arrived back in Fort Lauderdale, but my travel day was far from over.
Most guests were heading home that morning.
I was about to board another Disney ship.

Step Two: Disembark and Head for the Train | Taking the Brightline Train from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando
Instead of heading to the airport or home, I made my way straight to the Brightline train station.
If you haven’t experienced Brightline yet, it’s one of the easiest and most comfortable ways to travel across Florida. The train connects several major cities, making it incredibly simple to get between South Florida and Central Florida.
I boarded the train in Fort Lauderdale and rode north to Orlando.
The ride was smooth, relaxing, and honestly, the perfect way to recharge for the next part of the adventure.
But the day still wasn’t over.

Step Three: Orlando to Port Canaveral
Once I arrived in Orlando, my car was waiting for me.
From there, I drove about an hour east to Port Canaveral, one of the busiest cruise ports in the world and home to several Disney Cruise Line ships.
And waiting there for me was my next adventure.
Step Four: Boarding the Disney Wish, the Same Day
That afternoon, I stepped onboard the stunning Disney Wish.
But this sailing was very different from the first.
Instead of hosting a group cruise, I was meeting my husband, son, his wife, and my grandchildren for a family vacation at sea.
After a week of events, activities, and hosting onboard the Destiny, it was incredibly special to switch gears and simply enjoy the cruise as Grandma.
Watching my grandchildren experience Disney magic onboard made the entire adventure even more meaningful.
Sailing both ships consecutively gave me a unique perspective on the Disney Cruise Line fleet. While the Disney Destiny brings new themed experiences and stunning design, the Disney Wish continues to offer the classic Disney Cruise magic families love.

What Is Cruise Jumping on Disney Cruise Line? | Back-to-Back Cruises vs Side-by-Side Cruises vs Cruise Jumping
Cruise jumping is exactly what it sounds like, finishing one cruise and “jumping” onto another cruise immediately after.
It’s different from other cruise terms you may have heard.
It isn’t a back-to-back cruise.
A back-to-back cruise is when you stay onboard the same ship for two consecutive sailings.
It isn’t a side-by-side cruise.
A side-by-side cruise usually means sailing on two different ships that depart from the same port.
Cruise jumping is different.
Cruise jumping means you:
Disembark from one cruise
Travel to another port
Board a completely different ship
On the very same day
In my case, that meant:
Sailing on the Disney Destiny
Disembarking in Fort Lauderdale
Taking the Brightline train to Orlando
Driving to Port Canaveral
Boarding the Disney Wish
All in one single travel day.
It might sound ambitious, but thanks to Florida’s cruise ports and transportation options, it’s actually very doable with the right planning. With major Disney Cruise Line departures from Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale, Florida makes adventures like this surprisingly possible.
After sailing more than 40 Disney cruises as a Pearl Castaway Club member, I’m always looking for new ways to experience the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and cruise jumping may have just become one of my favorite adventures yet.
