D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event wrapped up on August 16, and Disney gave us a very long list of new attractions, updated classics and future projects to talk about.
Magic Kingdom is getting a massive Villains Land. Monstropolis is preparing to welcome humans at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Animal Kingdom is getting new Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions. Dreamfinder is returning to EPCOT. Disneyland is preparing to reimagine Tomorrowland.
It is exciting, but it is also a lot to sort through.
If you are planning a Disney vacation, the most important question is not simply, “What did Disney announce?” It is, “What does any of this mean for my trip?”
Here are the biggest Walt Disney World and Disneyland announcements from D23 2026, which ones have opening timeframes and why I would not automatically postpone a vacation to wait for them.
Magic Kingdom: Villains Land Is Going to Be Enormous
Disney finally shared the story and attraction concepts behind Villains Land, the new area coming to Magic Kingdom.
Imagineers compared its scale to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and the land will include two headlining attractions along with dining and shopping. The first major attraction will be a Maleficent coaster that sends guests racing through enchanted briars near her mountaintop fortress.
The second will be a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror. Guests will find him in the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen's palace before being transported into the Mirror Realm, where multiple Disney Villains will be brought to life through physical sets and special effects.
Disney also revealed an original story involving a corrupted Wishing Well whose dark magic attracts villains seeking its remaining power.
What this means for your vacation
Villains Land may become one of Magic Kingdom's biggest additions ever, but Disney has not announced an opening date.
If you already want to visit Walt Disney World in 2026 or 2027, I would not delay your entire vacation solely to wait for this land. We need a much clearer construction timeline before using it to choose travel dates.

Piston Peak Will Bring Two Cars Attractions to Magic Kingdom
Disney also revealed the names and stories of the two attractions coming to the Cars-inspired Piston Peak area.
Cars Ridge Run Rally will take racers through mountain trails, snowy peaks and erupting geysers while Lightning McQueen and Mater provide commentary from the sidelines.
Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along will feature the memorable demolition derby school bus from Cars 3.
What this means for your vacation
The two-attraction combination should give families with different thrill preferences something to enjoy. However, no opening date was included in Disney's D23 announcement, so this remains a future project rather than something around which I would plan a specific trip just yet.

Monstropolis Begins Opening at Hollywood Studios in 2027
Monstropolis is coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios, and this is one of the announcements with a meaningful timeframe.
Disney says parts of the land will open to guests in 2027 while work continues on the suspended door-vault coaster.
The new Glob Theater will feature a show hosted by Mike and Sulley, with an original song by Disney Legend Randy Newman. Guests will also be able to explore locations inspired by the films and grab a slice at Archie's Scare Pig Pizza.
The signature door-vault attraction will become Disney's first suspended coaster when it opens, although Disney has not yet provided a specific opening date for the coaster itself.
What this means for your vacation
If you are considering a 2027 Walt Disney World trip, Monstropolis is worth watching. “Parts of the land will open in 2027” does not yet tell us which month or exactly what will be operating, so I would wait for additional information before promising a particular experience.

Tropical Americas Is Taking Shape at Animal Kingdom
Disney revealed major new details about the 11-acre Tropical Americas land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent
The new Indiana Jones attraction will feature an original story set inside an ancient Maya temple. Riders will join Indiana Jones on an adventure involving the Maya Underworld, supernatural dangers and a massive serpent inspired by Maya mythology.
Harrison Ford is serving as the model for the attraction's Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figure. Disney says this will be the first Disney attraction anywhere in the world to feature Harrison Ford's likeness as Indiana Jones.
Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto
The new Encanto attraction will invite guests into Casita on Antonio's special gift day. The family-friendly adventure will include familiar spaces, new rooms created specifically for the attraction, Antonio's animals, music and the Madrigal family's magic.
Tropical Americas will also include a new carousel featuring hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories, plus a children's play area.
What this means for your vacation
Construction is moving forward, but Disney did not use the D23 presentation to provide a new opening date for the land. Families planning an Animal Kingdom day should continue using the attractions and entertainment confirmed for their actual travel dates instead of assuming these additions will be available.
The Yeti Will Move Again on Expedition Everest
Yes, Disney announced that the famous Yeti inside Expedition Everest will be brought back to life.
The enormous Audio-Animatronics figure was originally designed to move toward passing ride vehicles, but it has remained stationary for years.
Disney did not announce exactly when the restored movement will debut, but longtime Animal Kingdom fans immediately understood why this news was such a big deal.
What this means for your vacation
Expedition Everest is already a fantastic attraction, even with the stationary Yeti. Treat the restored movement as something exciting to watch for, not a reason to postpone a trip.
EPCOT Is Updating Its Past and Its Future
Two of the most emotional D23 announcements involved beloved EPCOT attractions.
Spaceship Earth Will Explore Human Connection
Spaceship Earth will receive its first significant update in nearly two decades. Its story will expand from the history of human communication to the broader theme of human connection while preserving the attraction's optimism and sense of possibility. Disney has not yet announced when the attraction will close for the work or when the updated experience will debut.
Dreamfinder Is Returning with Figment
Disney also confirmed that Journey Into Imagination will receive a complete reimagining featuring Figment and the return of Dreamfinder.
For longtime EPCOT fans, this was one of the most celebrated announcements of the weekend. It is also one of the projects for which we still need far more information, including the timeline and what the reimagined attraction will actually include.
What this means for your vacation
The biggest future planning consideration will be refurbishment dates. Once Disney announces closures, guests may want to consider whether experiencing the current version of an attraction matters to them. Until those dates exist, I would not change plans based on speculation.
Carousel of Progress Gets New Voices in 2027
Beginning in late spring 2027, Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will join Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress as the voices of the mother and father. Disney is also updating the attraction's 1980s scene. The Sherman Brothers classic “There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” will remain part of the show.
What this means for your vacation
This is one of the few D23 updates with a relatively specific debut window. Guests traveling in late spring 2027 or later may experience the refreshed version, although Disney could still provide a more exact date closer to the change.
Disneyland Is Preparing to Reimagine Tomorrowland
At Disneyland Park, Imagineers are developing a new vision for Tomorrowland that will honor the land's history while introducing new attractions, more open spaces and new places centered on dreaming about the future.
It may become a major transformation, but Disney has not yet shared an opening date, closure schedule or complete attraction lineup.
What this means for your vacation
This is an announcement to follow, not one that should immediately change a Disneyland vacation. Until Disney explains the construction schedule, we do not know how much of Tomorrowland will be affected at one time.

The First Coco Attraction Is Coming to Disney California Adventure
Disney shared new details about the first Disney Parks attraction based on Pixar's Coco.
The family-friendly boat ride will take guests through Miguel's memories of the Land of the Dead. Its story will take place one year after the original movie and will also connect with the upcoming Coco 2.
The queue will include a museum dedicated to the music of Héctor Rivera, and Imagineers are working with Pixar to create the attraction.
Disney did not announce an opening date during D23.
Avengers Campus Will Double in Size in 2028
Two new attractions will open as part of the Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure in 2028.
Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on a multi-world adventure involving King Thanos, physical sets and large media environments.
Stark Flight Lab will invite guests into a Stark Industries training experience. Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie and Brie Larson are expected to reprise their Marvel roles for the attraction.
What this means for your vacation
Guests planning a 2028 Disneyland vacation now have a major project to watch. We still need exact opening dates before assuming the attractions will be available during any particular month.
Favorite Disneyland Entertainment Returns in 2027
Disneyland's entertainment news came with clearer timeframes:
A refreshed “Remember... Dreams Come True” nighttime spectacular will return to Disneyland Park in February 2027.
An updated version of the original “World of Color” will begin at Disney California Adventure in February 2027.
The “Magic Happens” parade will return to Disneyland Park in summer 2027.
These announcements are especially helpful for travelers because they begin to show how Disneyland's 2027 entertainment calendar will take shape.
Should You Postpone a Disney Vacation for These New Attractions?
In most cases, no.
D23 is designed to show us the future, and some of these projects are still several years away. An announcement is not the same as an opening date. Even an opening year does not guarantee that an attraction will be operating during your travel month.
I would consider waiting only if one specific project is the central reason for your trip and you are flexible enough to delay until Disney confirms its opening date.
Otherwise, plan around what will definitely be available during your vacation. Walt Disney World and Disneyland already offer more than most families can experience in one trip, and waiting for every announced project creates a problem: Disney will always have another attraction on the horizon.
My Biggest Takeaway from D23 2026
The announcement that excites me most may change depending on which park we are discussing.
Villains Land could transform Magic Kingdom. Monstropolis should bring a completely different energy to Hollywood Studios. Tropical Americas may give Animal Kingdom two incredibly immersive family experiences. And the return of Dreamfinder feels like Disney listening to generations of EPCOT fans.
But as a travel advisor, my biggest takeaway is simpler: we now have a better picture of Disney's direction, not a finished calendar. The dates matter. Construction impacts matter. Your family's priorities matter.
As Disney releases opening dates, refurbishment schedules and additional details, I will continue translating the announcements into practical vacation-planning advice. That is when exciting Disney news becomes information you can actually use.
If you are considering Walt Disney World or Disneyland, I would love to help you choose dates based on what matters most to your family and build a vacation around confirmed experiences rather than internet speculation.
